BODY TYPE, INSURANCE CHARTS, AND WEIGHT SCALES – PART 2
Insurance charts and weight scales are curious creatures in that not only can you find variations on them, but you can find contradictions as well. In recent years, some experts have announced that the optimal weights listed on weight charts are too low!
Most doctors will give their patients a ten-pound range within which they are free to find their ideal weight. I've also heard of the mirror test which is simple enough—you stand in front of a full-length mirror, naked, and take a cold, hard look at yourself. If you are cosmetically overweight, you need to lose weight. (This test does not work for anorectics, please note, because no matter what they weigh, they still think they are fat. But I must assume you would not have bought this book if your man was anorectic! Besides, most anorectics are women.)
W If the naked truth doesn't do it for you, try this method: Allow pounds for the first five feet of your husband's height, then add five pounds for each additional inch. Add ten pounds for a large frame; subtract ten pounds for a small frame.
If you do not know how much your husband should weigh, even approximately, call his doctor and ask.
